Police were called to man’s Syracuse home for a dispute hours before he was killed

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse police were called to a man’s home for a dispute Wednesday and took a man away to a hotel just hours before police say that man returned to the home and fatally stabbed the man he had been fighting with.
Around 3:40 a.m., police were called to 610 Oswego St. in Syracuse for a domestic dispute, said Kieran Coffey, a spokesperson for the Syracuse police.
Police thought that one of the men, Tyler Kilmer, 29, of Auburn, appeared intoxicated, Coffey said. The police handled the domestic incident and left but were quickly called back, he said.
When officers returned, they found Kilmer acting erratically and took him to a hotel on South Salina Street, he said.
A little more than three hours later at 6:56 a.m., police returned.
Devonte Crosby, 31, of Syracuse, had been stabbed in the center of the chest by Kilmer, police said.
Crosby was declared dead at the scene. Kilmer was taken into custody at 7:07 a.m., just 11 minutes after the 911 call, police said.
Kilmer was charged with first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Syracuse City Court Judge Felicia Pitts-Davis arraigned Kilmer Thursday morning and set his bail at $100,000 cash, $500,000 bond and $1 million partially secured bond. He is being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center jail.
